Time Warner Cable has partnered with the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and granted $200,000 to support technology centers in five underserved Latino communities around the country.

"This partnership depends on our relationship with the communities we serve by bringing them the essential benefits of technology," said Timer Warner Cable's VP of external affairs and policy counselor Fernando Laguarda.

The centers in San Antonio, Texas; Kansas City, Miss.; Waukesha, Wis.; Charlotte, N.C.; and Cincinnati, Ohio, were selected based on each site's need and innovative use of technology. The three-year grant will supply these communities with computer equipment, high-speed Internet access and technology curriculums, in addition to assistance with educational goals and tools for finding jobs.

"Studies have shown time and time again that those with access to technology resources fare better in life than those who do not," LULAC national president Rosa Rosales said. "With this funding, we will be able to provide to those who are in most need of these services."

The five centers will join LULAC's Empower Hispanic America with Technology Network, which provides free broadband access to 100,000 visitors annually.
