But within a few minutes, the sex symbol turns on the charm, shedding the ice-princess aura for something friendlier and more engaging. She offers restaurant recommendations, asks questions about hometowns and reminisces about the days before texting and bloggers.

Javier Bardem and Julia Roberts in "Eat Pray Love."
I was both delighted and scared when I learned they were turning Elizabeth Gilbert's bestselling travel memoir Eat Pray Love into a feature-length film. I was one of the gajillion people who read the book--and not because Oprah liked it, but because I love the travel narrative genre. I've happily armchair traveled to many a dreamy locale through the pages of such reads. Let's start with this: Technically, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is not an indie movie. I mean, not really. When I think of a truly independent film, I think of a motley crew of actors and filmmakers armed with their own cameras, a budget of virtually nothing, and a strong DIY aesthetic. And by those standards, Scott Pilgrimjust doesn't fit the bill. It's a big-budget movie, relatively speaking, with visual effects that qualify as truly cutting-edge. In Michael Cera and Jason Schwartzman, it has at least two familiar actors. It has the backing of a studio. It's no Avatar, but it's no home movie, either.
